AFH School of Massage
The massage profession has grown by leaps and bounds in
the last 5-10 years. Many venues, including spas, health clubs, chiropractors,
and massage centers have greatly increased the number of massage therapists
in their operations. Medical professionals are beginning to recognize the
multitude of body conditions that massage can address. Massage is being
used to help people in pain get out of that pain.
In order to have an adequate knowledge of technique, the body and its systems,
and the professional issues of massage, the practitioner must have a solid
educational base. Alternatives for Health houses a state accredited massage
school offering 500 hours of hands-on instruction. Our program is divided
into two segments.
The first 200-hour session, which we refer to as the “Basic” Course, involves
two hundred hours in the classroom. You will learn technique, body mechanics,
anatomy & physiology, ethics and business practices. In this segment
the student will receive a solid basis in relaxation massage and learn some
pain relief techniques. You may choose to go directly into the 300-hour program
or go directly to work with the knowledge you have.
The “Advanced” segment consists of 300 hours in the classroom. This session
focuses more in depth on anatomy, how the muscular system works and several
specific pain relief modalities. This program includes both traditionally
focused techniques as well as a number of “energy” based techniques.
The school is designed for the student who cannot quit their day job to
go back to school. Classes are held on Friday nights 6:00pm-10:00pm and
Saturdays 9:00am-5:00pm on alternating weekends. Classes are limited to
16 people with two instructors. The small class setting provides a very
personal experience.
For a catalogue with full details, including the names of all the classes
included in the program, give us a call at 812-376-9194. We will be happy
to put one in the mail for you or answer any questions you might have.
